Question Oil finish on figured maple

Sign in to disble this ad
How hard or easy is it to apply a hand rubbed tung oil finish to spalted maple, is there any special precautions i would need to take? Another question how hard is it to apply the same type of finish to birdseye maple, again are there any precautions i need to take? Thanks. \m/

Tung oil is fine on maple. It will get dirty if the maple is in a wear area (like where you rest your thumb). If the spalt is punky, it will firm it up some, but you might want to use CPES on very soft areas before applying any finish to spalt.

what is cpes, and how difficult is it working with spalted maple, and i'm assuming there is nothing special to working with birdseye maple.
