Question Oil with silicone?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys!

Not sure if I should put this here or in setup, but it's just a simple question. Why shouldn't oil with silicone be applied to fingerboards?

I have that product here for furniture and what not, and I wanted to make sure if it was safe...

Is it that bad? What would it do on a long term to the wood? Also, is it recommended to oil the body on my bass (with the right stuff) if it doesn't have an oil finish itself? Say, it's finished with lacquer or poly or some other hard finish?

I have a tough time getting linseed oil down here and all the lemon oil I found in stores is that polishing stuff I was told not to use either.

Can all of you nice people shed some light unto this matter?

As with any other guy or gal here, I am trying to reduce stupidity-induced damage on my baby

Thanks in advance!!

If you don't plan on ever having a refinish or using any sort of polish or such that does not contain silicone, then you're good. Otherwise, probably not a good idea.

Yikes!!

Appreciate the heads up, Basschair! I wouldn't want to screw my bass like that.

As always, you were of great help. Thanks a lot!
