Paint removal question

Sign in to disble this ad
First, thanks for the info on the Thuya/dye question.

A little background. I have been stripping the old polyurethane finish off from my old BCR. The wood underneath is Basswood.

My question is...how do I know that I have removed all of the original sealer that was applied to the wood? Any trick or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Sometimes the sealer is clear so you won’t see it. Sand down to the bare wood and then take a medium grit steel wool with a little denatured alcohol and rub over it to get any residue left on the body (if you are going to do a transparent finish on it you might want to use a finer grit wool) . I always use wool because it is less abrasive than sand paper and you can use it during the finishing process as well.
