it's bizarre that you couldn't find anything even here on the LC where it has been discussed repeatedly. I suggest you do a search for 'winder' or 'winding'.

This site was ver useful when making the first version of my winder and inspired me to design the second version for my specific use. I also looked at a lot of the comercial winders for inspiration.

Here's the link to a thread I had for my new winder:

New winder in progress plus a question

Feel free to ask specific question. I know Phil Mailloux, scottyd and myself have been winding pickups lately, so we may be able to help.

Here's a pickup builder's forum.
http://music-electronics-forum.com/f...splay.php?f=11

Read for a while and don't post, they get real cranky when someone posts "I don't know anything about pickups but want to build my own" do your research, google up "pickup building" there's a few site online showing how to do it. There's also my own site in my signature. Thats how I build my first pickup 3-4 years ago. It's not that great now(for me) but it's a good start to learn. (click on the sunburst bass, it's the third or fourth page)

The bible of the craft is Jason' Lollar's "Basic pickup theory and complete guide to making your own pickup winder" It used to sell for $20 but is now out of print and fetches about $150 everytime it pops up on ebay. I scanned my copy and made a nice profit when I sold it If you really want to get into it, it's worth the investment (then resell it on the bay too once done) I've seen a copy once go for $300
