Does anyone know what the proper measurement is for the distance between the nut and the pickups on a Fender Jazz bass and Ernie Ball Music Man bass should be?

Mods, can you move this thread to "Luthier's Corner"? I think I might get better feedback there. Thanks.

Regardless of scale, the "neck" pickup on the J and the pickups on the P and Mustang all are the rough distance from the 12th fret to the 3rd fret.

In other words, measure the distance from the 12th fret to the 3rd fret- then take that distance towards the bridge- that's where the pickup goes.

Thanks Golden Boy. I assume that measurement is to the center of the pickup, not the front or rear.

This works on a G&L L2000 also (measured to middle of pup). Thanks for the info.

Center nut to center pup

Fender J

27 7/8" N 31 1/2" B (60's)

ditto 31 7/8" B (70's)

Ray is 13 1/8" from 12th fret to center of N poles if I'm not mistaken
