Planning 1st Build - Mahogany prep question

Sign in to disble this ad
When using mahogany as a 'core' wood with laminate facings, is there any 'prep' work that needs to be done - pore sealer, etc.?

I have a 1" thick mahogany blank that eventually will form the core of a 4-string (the Winter project) - and I was wondering if I needed to prep the core material in any way, prior to laminating.

The blank is planed to roughly 1" thick, and I'm looking at eventually having 1/4" facings (still deciding on the wood).

Thanks in advance!

A good sanding should be all you need. I usually wipe the surface with denatured alcohol to get the dust off, then glue up.
