Hi, my friend who is a cabinetmaker told me that polyurethane cannot be buffed to a high gloss. Is this true?

incorrect.

my two latests (title of thread) were finished with high gloss polyurethane varnish then buffed with polishing compound. the result = high gloss and mirror like surface.

many companies make polyurthane varnishes in matt, 25% gloss, 50% gloss, glossy and high glossy grades. Some make more specialized varnishes as well.

from bob flexner's book ...and I paraphrase:

"any hard film finish can be buffed to a high gloss"

What they said - All you've got to do is look at the link below and you'll see highly buffed polyurethane finishes to show to your friend.

He likely never uses high solids, high gloss finishes in his business.
