I've always loved the dark wine red finishes that you see on a lot of the alembic basses with cocobolo. I'm getting ready to build my first bass (a gecko) and wanted to know if I could get that same color (and possibly that contrast between the red and black figures) with say an alder or swamp ash body. Obviously I understand that alder and swamp ash don't have the same figure as cocobolo. I just want to know if I can get that same color and if so how. Thanks. You guys rock!

same finish.

just more coats and let it soak in more before wiping off excess, just how you would stain any wood to match a similar type with darke graining.

If your buying a gecko body, just get it pre finished the color you want. Save yourself the head ache.
