Properly defretting.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, I have a Squier P-Bass that I think sounds like bul honkey, but I love the feel. I'm sure that if I swapped out the pick-ups and added a BadAss bridge, all would be find and dandy, but I do not have $250 to blow. So, I am thinking of defretting it.

What tool(s) would work best for this?

What do i place in the Frets spots?

If I end up hating it, can I put the frets back in?

Thanks,

Mike

It sounds like you're defretting it because you don't like the way it sounds. This is not really a good idea. You'll change the sound, but if you don't like it now, it might not sound good fretless. Also, playing fretless isn't easy.

If you do a search on this site, you'll probably get all the information about defretting you could possibly want

I don't think it would be a huge loss, even if you didn't like it. It's a relatively cheap bass, and if you don't like the way it sounds now, there's nowhere to go but up. And you can probably sell it (for very little) if you hate it.

I cannot sell the bass. I love it to much, yet I hate it. You know that "First Bass" connection.

Is it possibly to re-fret it?
