well, if you haven't used a spray gun before, I suggest you practice first. If you have experience, then you know how to set up pressure and fluid for optimum atomization.
I also suggest you take a look at target coatings super clear 9000 water based poly. That stuff is just great! Waterbased finishes require special attention when being applied because they don't look as wet as solvent finishes when being applied and if not careful, you could apply the coats too thick and this would either result in runs that you would have to sand off between coats or improper curing. I suggest you apply in thin coats 2 hours apart and sand in between only if you need to correct blemishes or debris from the previous coat.
Also, it's very important that you use proper air flow in the spray area. A small booth is ideal (I'm in the process of drafting my small booth with bathroom extractors for finishing in my garage/shop). If you don't , then the overspray will land on areas of the finish and result in some areas feeling rougher than others and with less clarity.
