Question relating to bolt-on Fender style neck.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I'm attaching a new Fender neck onto a Precision body, the neck is undrilled for the bolt holes in the heel. The body has been drilled already.

Does anyone know what size drill bit should be used for drilling the neck heel for attachment to the body?

Do I need to tap the hole also, if so, what size tap should be used?

Thanks.

Myself I would use 9/64 drill size. Measure your screws and don't drill the fretboard. Also use a stick wax or lube your screws. I would also use new screws with a fresh head.

If your using normal neck screws you shouldnt need to tap it, they are basically big self tappers.
you just need to be sure that the holes you drill for them are not too small or too big, which will all depend the screws that you are using.

Yeah, I'm going to use the original screws. So, I guess it shouldn't be a problem then.
