Recommendations on this neck?

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone have any recommendations/reviews on this neck? It is made by All Parts and I'm planning on putting this on my gorgeous 3-tone sunburst jazz bass body. The seller wants $227+15 shipping. Is that a good deal? I would appreciate all good & bad inputs including pricing, playability, beter alternatives, etc. Thanks!

Sure, go for it. Allparts makes decent necks, and that's a fair price. I'm an allparts dealer, wholesale cost on that neck is 182.50- you're getting it for less of a markup than most folks would sell it for.

Do you know if I can get one exactly like that for $200 shipped?

It's not that I don't trust you guys but I've seen that neck on eBay for a long time now and the price hasn't budged. I'm going to try to wait it out to see if a better deal comes along. I really don't want to pay more than $200 shipped.

You'll be really really lucky to catch that good of a deal. But it'll most likely come to you with marks or dings or scratches, which would be the reason the neck would be sold.

Yes it's good to be patient, no it's bad to pass up really good offers.

Average price that I have seen and paid for that neck is 229-249 plus shipping.
It's a great neck, I had like 3 different allparts just like it. 2 rosewoods, and a maple with blocks... You can't tell the difference from a Genuine Fender. They fit MIJ and MIA bodies better than the MIM's.. Just a little bit lower and tighter in the pocket on MIJ's. You will have a long wait if you want to pay 200.00 shipped. Maybe used, but I know I would want a new one, so my holes are the first ones ever drilled. If you don't have a drill press, let someone with a drill press do it for you. be sure the holes are drilled the right size and don't tighten down the screws like the Hulk. You can easily twist the fingerboard just enough to cause buzzing if you do.
Snug them down just until they are tight, and stop.
That's your MIM body?
IMHO.

227 is a good price. There is a guy on Ebay that sells these necks very week for $224.99. They are great necks, and well worth the extra $25

Man you guys are making my GAS worse and worse (...shivering as I try to resist clicking "buy it now"). Yes that is my jazz body. Haven't arrived yet so don't know if it's MIM or MIJ. It's got a nice finish and seems to be in great condition. We'll see when it gets here.

It's a Mexican Jazz bass body. Did you get from Slonk. or Goerdt on ebay?

I got it from vabman.

Do you know the seller? If it's a MIM, oh well... As long as it's in good condition I'm okay with it. BTW your JO motivated me to start this project. Thanks for your inspiration ::

The only problem with Jazz bass bodies from mexico, is both pickups are the same size, and all other jazzes have a wider pickup at the bridge. When you buy Lindy Fralins or Dunkins to upgrade the pickups, they will be the 2 different sizes. But it's nothing to have the back pickup routed that tiny little bit wider. So it's cool. They're also a little heavier. The guy I was thinking you might have bought from is a friggen rip. he sells MIM's and calls them MIJ's all day. You got what I think is a fair deal. 159 is fair. Get that Allparts neck bro, and she will look sweet. From my experience, the maple bound and blocked necks always play better, and seem to setup better also. Less relief, and lower action every time I had one. Maple is the preferred sound too. I like it, but rosewood does look better, especially with the blocked inlays and the binding. Do what makes you happy, and whatever sounds good to you.
Good luck Brohiem!

Damn, if I had enough money, I'd buy it. I wouldn't have to pay shipping, either, I'd just go pick it up. Ridgefield is like a 5 minute walk away from me.

I got my bass body today and man it's just beautiful . I put in my Barts 9J-L1 and it fit perfectly. No need to route it...phewww!!! I was seriously thinking about re-selling the body because I didn't want to have to route it. I have no tools to do such a task. Here are pics of the parts that I've got so far:

Here's the look I'm trying to shoot for except with 4-strings, gold hardware, and Bartolini pickups.

Because I am going with gold hardware (***bling bling*** ) here's the question: What is your recommendation on TUNERS for a jazz bass? I've checked out hipshots, sperzels, & schallers and personally they seem a lil expensive for me. I'm considering some wilkinson. Anyone have any experience with these?
