Removing old paint and putting on new paint

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi folks,

I am looking at purchasing an old bass from a friend- but the current paint is pretty chipped and I am not a fan of the color.

While I realize that I could do the job of removing the paint myself and re-applying a new finish I don't really have the tools, the time, and I don't think I would enjoy the task. So I wanted to send it to a shop or builder to have it done professionally.

I searched google and found a few places that did it but I couldn't find anything on talkbass with the search function. Can anyone recommend a place to me?

Thanks!

Maybe you should take a look on this site and decide if you want or not paint it yourself. http://www.paintyourownguitar.com/
I have the book and it explains a lot of things.
Hope it helps.

That looks interesting... but I would still have to remove the old paint and try this spray paint method. And if I screw up there would be time + money wasted . I also don't think I would find it enjoyable- I am not even interested in attempting it myself.

O.k I understand your point. Here another site http://www.edromanguitars.com/custom/galpaint.htm Maybe you can send the bass there? Another possibility is if you search In your city for someone who paints motorcycles or cars, Here in my city that´s what people do when they need to paint their guitars ( No luthiers around).
