Removing Spray Paint from a P-Pickguard

I have a P-bass pickguard that was spraypainted blue. It looks pretty terrible and I'm wondering if there is a way to remove this paint without ruining the plastic?

Sandpaper?
Acetone?

But don't listen to me, someone that knows more will probably chime in.
Just my two guesses, what I think might work.

Dont use the paint remover brush for a dremel. I tryed with a pickguard on my jazz and ended up digging into the pickguard. So are you planning on removing the paint to repaint it or are you hoping it will look good with the paint off. I dont think you can remove the paint and make it look good your best option is sand it down and get a color of krylon fusion spraypaint you like and re paint it. Maybe you should just buy a new pickguard warmoth.com sells lots of different pickguard materials at great prices.

A paint stripper called Kutzit will probably work... just don't expect the pickguard to look like new. Probably will be cloudy and dull looking. Depends on what brand paint was used, some paints bite plastic better than others. If the paint has not bonded well, you may be able to get it off with rubbing compound like you use for polishing car paint.

For my time and money, I agree with Greenman. Scarcely worth the effort, unless it's some odd-ball that is not easily replaced.

Paint thinner worked pretty well when I screwed up a pickguard and had to paint it again. it may look a little different depending of the paint used like Thangfish said.

Hows the chemical substance in those pick guards? Can it stand 90-95 percent alcohol as varnish/lacquer does?
