Removing Tape Residue

I'm currently in the process of refinishing my Warmoth PJ, my first attempt at anything like this. Most everything is going well so far. I'm painting the face of the headstock, and when I removed the painters tape, it left some residue in some spots on the back of the neck and fretboard.

The back of the neck has the Warmoth satin finish on it, and the rosewood fretboard is unfinished. What can I use to remove the tape residue without damaging the fretboard or the finish on the neck? I tried searching on here and couldn't come up with anything. Thanks!

i usually resort to using mineral spirits and a soft cotton rag (old t-shirt) any time i need to remove tape residue. use a small section of rag and just damped it.
next time try automotive grade painters tape and see if it helps avoid this.

Lemon oil might also work, and be good for your fingerboard in the bargain.

I have some industrial-strength label remover which is basically orange oil.

Yeah mineral spirits is the ticket, zippo lighter fluid will also work, and may be something you have laying around your house.

Wow, that was quick! I know I've got some lemon oil, and probably some of those other things laying around too. Thanks everyone!

It's pretty much lighter fluid. Use that.

painter's tape residue is pretty low tack, isn't it? Can't you just roll it off with the pad of your finger?

But yeah, naptha...surefire.

Wrap a couple of loops of said tape round your fingers and use the fresh glue on the tape to pull the old stuff off. Anything that disolves it just smears it all over. The tape pulls ALL the old glue off. You just keep tapping the glue side of the tape on the old glue until it all lifts. I do it all the time with double sided gel tape.
