Question Replacing a bridge question?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a 34" scale 5 string bass that is 1.75" @ nut, and 2.75" @ last fret. I want to replace the bridge with one that has 19mm string spacing. Can anyone tell me if there will be a problem with the string spacing being too wide at the fretboard?

What is your current string spacing?

I believe it is 17mm.

expect that at the end of the neck, it will move the strings outward by ~1.35mm on each side of the fingerboard. Do you have the room for that?

Question

I have about 2.7mm from the outside of the B string to the edge of the fretboard, and about 1.9mm from the outside of the G sting to the edge of the fretboard.

Why is it that going from 17mm to 19mm (2mm) only going to move the strings outward by 1.35mm on each side?

2mm is 1mm at the 12th fret because it moves like a pendulum. I think he is assuming a 21 or 22 fret board.

To better explain it, hold your arm out straight and move your hand up 2 feet. If we assume that the elbow is the half way point from your shoulder to your hand, it will move up a foot.

Makes sense. It is a 24 fret fingerboard though. I'm guessing at the 24th fret it will be about 1.5mm outward??????
