| Replacing a zero fret? help

I have a zero fret on a really old (60s or 70s) Japanese bass that needs replaced. The g string has worn a groove in it and now buzzes, but only when playing open G.
So I have never replaced a fret on any of my basses. How do I extract it and put another in? What tools do I use? What's the method? While ideally I would use the same fretwire I don't think it is as big a deal as any other frets because it is the zero fret, and some builders use a taller fret for that (some other builders might agree or disagree with this.) i doubt I could find the same fretwire anyways. |
