I'm using autoair waterborne colors for this finish. I've never used them and it's not like conventional polyurethane at all (IMO). After much trial and error, this paint does not like wet coats which means shooting 6 or 8 coats of yellow to make it cover. the black is going much better with just 6 coats necessary. I'm going to try water based clear on top. I'll get to that a bit later on.
first coat of yellow. The dark spot is wood filler.
