Is that the other board Larry did with mine?

Amazing choices of woods... the fretless 6 I have planned for it all is:

Bubinga top, back & board (board is acrylized)
Butternut core
Wenge/bubinga neck

... and it's been dubbed "The Bubinga Bass" too

Actually, its pretty light. I was surprised as everyone when fit the neck in. I'll get more pics of the neck up today. James, yes, that's the same board.

Saved from destruction (Again)

Both these basses have been put off by my basement remodel, which is finally complete. (Pat on back)
This Spalted Beech bass was written off once before when the planer had its way with the top. I bought a thickness sander and was able to revive it.

The core wood is Ash that I salvaged from the cutoff bin at the lumber yard. I've never seen Ash with this coloring and I'm not sure what the condition is called.

The bubinga fiver is strung up, just needs to have its nut polished, some gold screws acquired and final setup. This one WILL get wooden knobs and I'll post steps on that process, which I almost have down.
Here it is last week.

I notice you get a lot from Norbert. I got my quote in about two days and my bridge in about two weeks but that was 1 1/2 years ago. He must be busier now.

Hi Luke, like maple, ash has a darker colored heart due to extractives, but ash heartwood can also be variegated. Your ash is primarily heartwood....

That ash is really interesting....I wouldn't have guessed heartwood, I was leaning toward a mild spalt. The grain (pores) looks really straight to me and cross-cuts the variegation situation...but then again, that's how black limba works as well.
