Having it set up like that works best for me and it's more natural for my finger style approach. I rather come across the octave strings with my fingers first before I get to the standard string, it really works better for me in that regard and when I thump the E and A strings I'm getting the meat of the sound because my thumb is coming down as if I'm thumping a more traditional bass.

For me some short scale basses have, for lack of a better description a creamier sound and the notes just have a blossoming effect that I like. I chose to have this 15 string made with a 32" scale for those reasons and because if it was a standard scale the headstock would be to long for pretty much all gig bags.
