At the beginning of this post you mention that the chambers on the single cut you are building are "balanced" in volume, including the control cavity and battery compartment. Do you find that when chambering an instrument this is an important consideration? Does it affect tone? I'm just curious because you made it a point to say the volumes of the chambers are the same. |

Balanced volume has been put forth by a number of builders I know as being something that made a distinct difference.
It doesn't. IME
Chambering doesn't really boost any mid response either. IME
BUT, I have found by continuing the chambering under the bridge, you can definitely effect the sound of the instrument. By totally removing the body core support under the bridge and just using a top or top with some thickness of body wood, you can actually tune response, Attack, and tone slightly.
It's NOT a huge amount, but is noticable. INMNSHE |

It doesn't dominate the tone, just adds this weird woof to the sound. It's kind of cool |

Octodero, sometimes I like to recess the washers, depends on the tuner. With the Grovers/gotoh/Schaller die cast mini's, the short shaft needs it. On Wilkinson open frames there is no need because the shaft is longer. Hipshots can also be done without the recess, but no matter which tuner, the recess's do look cool. |
