Still gotta do some work on the PG. I see now why people pay $60 for a custom-cut PG

How did you cut that pick guard out?

The easiest way I found to do it is to make a template out of wood, then cut the pick guard out with a straight pattern bit, for the neck pocket and pickup cavities, and a chamfer bit for the beveled edges.

Its much easier to sand a wooden template until it is perfect than to try and fix pick guard material after its been cut.

Yeah. I cut it out with a scroll saw and tried to sand / bevel it by hand. It didn`t look perfect so I kept messing with it. The more I tried to fix it, the worse it looked. Looks like crap now and I gave up on it. Tricky stuff - too hard to work by hand, too soft to use power tools. So I cut an MDF pattern today and have it ready to go when another PG sheet arrives. Live & learn

Unfortunately, you may be right. Sigh. After taking a close look at the wiring, the pots are not going to just line up, due to the wiring. So, it`s either a PG that will accommodate the 2x2 pot configuration, or a rewire will be needed. Although I really don`t like the MM design, aesthetics are not at the top of my priority list. Decisions....

So... why not stick to the concentric, stacked pots as you planned? It's basically a pot on top of a pot, isn't that complex to wire.

I dunno. I`m wishy-washy. And I didn`t take into account that new pots & knobs would run $50. Plus I`m completely ignorant when it comes to electronics. I`m afraid of getting into a mess I can`t get myself out of. Looking at the circuit I know it shouldn`t be a problem, but if I wire it all up and there`s a problem, I`ll be at a total loss. If I understood the science of it all better and had more experience, I wouldn`t hesitate. An example of my lack of understanding: I see the orange caps on a couple of the pots, but what are the two little blue-striped - bulb looking things - capacitors of another type ? And there was still the question left somewhat unanswered about how much effect different pots might have.

Progress was going good. After a couple of false starts on the PG, I did it the right way: cut a pattern out of MDF, then used a pattern bit to cut the guard. Turned out nicely, and I went with a version of the P/J hybrid mockup that will port the electronics over intact. Got my jack, shielding tape in, was all set to finish it up. But...my wife has had a relapse of her cancer. It is now in her brain, and her prognosis is poor. Between caring for her, our two small kids, and trying to work & maintain our household, all extracurricular activity has stopped. If any of you are praying folks, we need it.

Had a little time to work on the bass. After a test - fitting of everything, I committed the same mistake as some of you others - I routed the bridge pup a hair too big. So, after filling the gap, the body is prepped for a refin now. Just waiting for the next warm, dry day

Duplicolor - not sure of color name. It provided an outstanding finish for a spray can

lol - me too I did the shielding / electronics transplant to the PG last night. The knobs I ordered are too small for the shafts, however - any suggestions ? And I ordered a side-mount jack - wow, it needs a big hole to fit, so I hit a bump in the road. Gonna try to keep the newfound momentum going, though

Just saw this thread.; very cool idea & a great color. I'm a big fan of T40 pickups myself. I also just ordered one of those same bridges (I really like the way they look).

It looks really good, can't wait to see it completed.

Sending Prayers & good vibes to your Wife & Family.
