Question Standard P-Bass: any recommended upgrades?

I'm a beginning bassist, starting out with a Fender (MIM) Standard Precision Bass. So far I'm very happy with the instrument, but are there any electronic or hardware upgrades that are considered must-haves for the best performance and the least long-term trouble? I'm not looking to make big changes in its sound or appearance, or turn it into a pseudo-MIA P-Bass; but if any original parts are known to be trouble-prone, I'd like to upgrade them early on.

I've had a few Fender's that benefited from some extra shielding. I used the copper tape from Stewart-McDonald (about $5).

Other than that, I like a good set of strap locks- I like Schallers but lots of folks like Dunlops (about $15).
