'Standard routing depth'?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys. Sorry if this sounds like a bit of a basic question, but this seems to be assumed knowledge and search on the forums or on the web isn't turning up anything. I'm wondering what exactly the 'standard routing depth' for pickups (specifically, jazz bass bridge pickup) is. I ask this because I'm planning to route my p bass into a pj (I've got a template) but I need to get a bit and I'm not sure what length I need.

Thanks for you time

First you need to get your pickup. Then measure the height of the pickup and the height of the strings. Decide what the max clearance you want over the pickup. And calculate from there.
