StewMac Red Mahogany color tone stain
I jumped the gun and bought a bottle of StewMac colortone dye before I thought a few things through:
I bought a bottle of their Red Mahogany color. Does anyone have any example pictures they can share with me so I can see the color on an instrument? I'm going for a 70's Fender Walnut stain color.
Also, can this stain be mixed with Tung Oil? I'd be using Behlen's pure Tung oil, also purchased from StewMac. (To my knowledge this is 100% Tung oil with no drying agents, etc.)
Also, what prep should I carry out before staining, assuming the dye can be mixed with Tung Oil?
My reasons for wanting to mix it with Tung Oil are pretty simple.. that the bass body I want to stain already has a many-coated Tung oil finish applied to it, I like Tung Oil, and I don't have a sprayer or any way of mixing the dye with nitro/laquer.
I have a lot of small ash scraps that I will probably test this on regardless of whether or not it should work, for curiosity.
Thanks in advance.
