perhaps this should be in setup, but i figure builders would have something to say about it

so the way i play with my RH usually involves resting my thumb on low E, or the pickup when i'm playing the E string. this works out alrite, but i have to stay over one of the pickups. i want to put some kind of a thumbrest or ridge inbetween the pickups, with the outer edge of the rest flush with the outer edge of the pickups (so its a continuous line). a major problem is that the pickguard runs right thru that line, so one side of the ridge bottom would need to be cut out or compensated for the raised surface.

another way to think about it is a ramp that fits snug between two pickups, but with just the edge of it, not the whole thing.

anyone have examples/advice?

Great minds must think alike. I just finished making exactly what you described for my Jazz. My brother in law has my camera right now, so I'll post up some pics after the weekend.

Basically, I made exactly what you described, except I carved out the bottom of the thumbrest to create a notch so that it sits on top of the pickguard and then tapers down to fit snug against the body too. Its held in place purely through the tension of being forced between the pickups. I haven't trialed it though, so I'm not sure if it will need something more in order to stay in place when playing hard or for extended periods.

I'll post up early next week...
