When measuring string spacing at the nut and bridge do you measure edge of string to edge of string or center of string to center of string?

Usually center-to-center. On some extended-range basses, where the low strings are really fat, the spacing is increased. This makes it more even edge-to-edge. For regular 4/5/6 string basses, almost everyone uses equal center-to-center spacing.
