String tension

Are low tension strings better for the neck on a bass...i.e. less likely to distort over time ?
Is there a simple mod. I can do to increase sustain.?

If a neck is made well it should matter. One might need to adjust the truss-rod to compensate for a change in string gauge.

btw, Why does everyone want to increase sustain?
I can't say short sustain has ever been a problem for me...

Low tension strings would be easier on the neck, but if it's built properly it won't make any difference.

Mod to increase sustain? Probably nothing significant that won't have major drawbacks. (add weight to headstock?)

A compressor could do it.
