Strings anchored in the body.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

On some basses I have seen the strings anchored in the body, behind a slim bridge.

I'm not talking about through body strings.

Like a double Alembic bridge, but without the tailpiece.

How can this be done - I haven't seen inserts that allow this?

Are there any problems or benefits of this?

I know you can buy the tailpieces, but I'd like to keep as much wood visible as I can.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Regards,
Altoid.

I've seen it done a few ways:
- grooves cut directly into the body (Bone bass)
- pocket cut into the body, and a wooden string stop "inlayed." (Lawrence)
- pocket and grooves cut into the body, and a custom brass string holder inserted (RIM basses)

I like this better and somehow seem to be a bit more in the safe-side using brass. I have a pic at home where a Yamaha bass use a piece of brass. Ill try to post it later.
