Stripping an Ibanez SR300

I've got this Ibanez in a nasty purple/blue finish, which I'm going to refinish, I've read up on refinishing, and am curious, has anyone refinished an Ibanez bass before? The finish is extremely thick, and I'd like to know what you used to strip it, ie: electric sander, chemicals, sandpaper, etc.
