Specs
TeleJazz body shape, gold sparkle finish
Alder body
Maple neck/Rosewood board
Peavey T40 pickups from TB classifieds wired V/V/T
High mass bridge off of a Squire CV
Hipshot Ultralite tuners.
I got the body roughed out
This is the gold flake I'll be using, probably with a black base coat. I'll do some experimenting before hand
I haven't received it yet, but this is the neck I will be using. The headstock will be reshaped to my take on a Tele style headstock, painted to match the body. On a Fender style headstock, its more economical time wise and money wise to buy a pre built neck vs building one.
That is it for now, still waiting on most of my parts.

My taste xD | Well actually, I'm doing neither of those.
The red one is red flake on a black base coat, the gold is either going to be gold flake on black, or gold flake on a gold base. I have to do some experimenting to figure out what I like best.

I wanted it to be something that is very Fender, but something that Fender has never done before.

| | | | TeleJazz
Funny that you fancy tele and jazz bass hybrids with sparkle finishes, because I do too! |

A Jazz w/a Tele-style pg & defretted Tele P neck
And after removing the finish, installing a J fretted neck and tapering the pg to be somewhere between a Tele and Jazzmaster/Jaguar.
I'll keep an eye on this new build of yours - |

Any imperfection in your color coat, and you pretty much have to start over or live with it. There is no touching up, and no sanding out a run. If you sand through the clear, into the color coat, you can sand the color off of the flake leaving a small silver spot. Also, do not use the metal flake in a spray gun that you have any intention of spraying clear through again. No matter how well you clean it out there will always be some random flakes stuck in your next project.
But the end result is very much worth it. I'm still going to refinish the red one. Ill probably break it back down, and respray it when its time to spray the Gold one.

I really dig that silver flake. Whoever sprayed that one piled on way more flake than I did on the red one. I think that may be the way I do the gold one, I bet that was at least 5 or 6 coats of flake on that one. That red bass was only 2 coats, the red doesn't look as good that saturated.

| | Everybody Wang Chung Tonight | | Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Houston Tx | | | Its actually a terrible pickup config. I dont recommend it. I wound up epoxying another Jazzbucker with no cover into the Mudbucker cover. and I cut the heads off of some screws and glued them in the holes.
It sounds great now and still has the aesthetic I wanted.
