I have an unfinished P-Bass body that will become my first fretless, I would like to do a TransBlack finish, my local tech wants $350 for the job, what other options are there, I have some high school wood shop exp, I might take it there to see if I might be able to have it done there, could someone tell me the materials needed and the process to get the job done? if TransBlack is to hard was thinking of Tung Oil

Trans black is a relatively simple finish to do if you have any finishing experience. All you need is alcohol disolvable analine dye which you can get from Stew Mac, or LMI, and some spray lacquer or poly depending on your preference. $350 for finishing a body is exceptionally steep. $85 to $150 is usually the norm around here.
