Truss Rod install??

Sign in to disble this ad
So what is the difference between the way that a stingray has its truss rod installed (spokewheel at bridge end of neck pointed to nut) vs the way that fender has its truss rod installed (allen nut pointed from nut to bridge). The longest rod that stew mac has is 24 inches so it does not extend the length of the neck, so what it the best way? I am really partial the spoke wheel like a stingray.

Not all Fenders have them at the nut end, many have them at the bridge end.

That said, there is no difference, just aesthetics and personal preference...

If you install your truss rod with the adjustment at the bridge end you can make your neck thiner at the nut. Depending on which truss rod you use.

I think it has to do just with aesthetics sometimes. If it's at the heal of the neck, there is no truss rod cover on the headstock. Also, a heel adjustable truss rod seems easier to do if you've got it on your lap.

I saw a build on here I believe where the spoke was actually through the fretboard. Interesting concept, but it came out looking pretty decent.

There have been a few of those.

I have to admit the spoke wheel at the heel is the easiest way to adjust a truss rod, that is probably what I am going with, I saw the one cut through the fretboard, I assume that was necessary due to either an extra long scale length or extended fingerboard..........
