Truss rods & beeswax...

Sign in to disble this ad
Figured that title might gather some interest!

Okay, I have a Benavente SCD 5 Standard - great bass, but as of late I've noticed there's a bit of truss rod buzz/rattle coming from inside the neck.

I received some advice from both Brian @ The Low End & here on TB to adjust the rod slightly and see if that helps. It didn't unfortunately.

I was able to speak with Chris Benavente directly today on the phone (very nice guy). He suggested that I loosen the rod, take it out & generously "wax" the rod with some beeswax, then reinstall.

Being that I'm pretty much all thumbs when it comes to repairs of this nature (hence my posting here ), does anyone have any added advice or suggestions for me should I tackle this on my own? I'm a little nervous to say the least - setting up my bass? Sure! Pulling (and then reinstalling) a truss rod? Not so much... *gulp*

Thanks in advance!

Hi.

As all the guitars and basses I've worked with has had non-detachable truss rods, that option didn't even cross my mind (I was the one suggesting rather drastic measures ).
That's a very cool option to have and one that's really appreciated by repairmen I believe.

If the builder himself suggested that You do it yourself, it can't be that difficult, can it.
The beeswax will probably work wonders.

Regards
Sam

Ps. And I gladly take back what I said about bad craftmanship/design
