Typical 5'er Nut

What is the typical 5 string nut width? I have a little under 2.5" now and it is monsterous. Serious modification but totally necessary after getting .44" between strings. <lol>

2.5! Yikes! My custom build 5er has an extra-wide nut @ 54mm (2.125"). Most are closer to 44~ mm (~1.75").

I have 6ers w/2 1/8" nuts, & I consider them wide. Get out the saw.

Wow... Okay. I think I'll go with a 2" nut and make a MDF template for the follower bit on my router. This is not going to be fun...

2.5" at the nut are you build a bass or an aircraft carrier? Just kidding. I play 5'ers and the nut width runs from about 1 5/8" to just over 2".

Thanks. <lol>

I have enough left of the center lamination to get 2 more instruments out of it. One will be a 7 string baritone geetard and the other is as yet defined.

That's a sexy-looking bass, but yeah, 2.5" is just nuts (har har). I can get around on my 2.125"-er with proper technique, but there's no way I would want to go wider than that unless it was on like a 7-string.

Hey, now there's an idea...

the Squier Deluxe Active V has a very wide nut @ 2.008" (51mm)...It's wide. It takes a while to get used to, but I love it...
I would probably never go wider than this...even if I went into the world of the 6er (not in this decade ), I would still probably keep the nut to around 2"...

2.5" THAT'S WIDE...WISHBASS WIDE

+1, a friend of mine has a bit of an obsession with the number 13 (she even has a tattoo of it); she'd love that. Very cool.

Thanks guys. I have CADed up the template. Hopefully I can get it done next week then reshape the profile as well.

13 is a good number in my book. It's my little brother's favorite. If he would learn to play I would build him a bass.
