wenge neck sustain?

Sign in to disble this ad
hey everyone
im lookin to build a neck thru 7 stringer and im trying to determine what woods to use for the neck. wenge sounds like it has the kind of tone i want, but i havent heard how it is for sustain, higher or lower on the neck. also, what would work well as a laminate with wenge? im thinking either maple or bubinga, but i'm really not sure. thanks!

I am of the opinion that construction has more to do with sustain than wood selection. I've never had a sustain problem and I have used wenge, maple, sapele, jatobah, picana negra, bubinga, and others. I'd also add that either bubinga or maple will work well as stringers, but my personal preference is bubinga because I prefer to have similar textures and similar movement properties between the laminates at this point.
