What's the right measurement for pickup routing?

Hello! I'm going to complete my third build and I'm really excited...
I'll have to make pickup routings tomorrow. What's the recommended distance between the pickup and the routing's sides? How larger the routing has to be? I'd leave 0.5mm around it. Is it too tight?

Make sure you measure the BOTTOM of the pickup casing, some brands flare out towards the base. Either that or file down the bottoms making them more uniform. Just make sure you do it deep enough so that it doesn't show on the end product.

I make mine 1/6" wider (1/32 on each side) and a little under an eighth longer (1/16th per end). This is to give freedom of adjustment laterally (bass to treble side) so the pickup doesn't bind up in the rout.

Hope this helps.

Yes, they put a draught angle on it so you can get it out of the mold!

If you are going to rout before you paint, leave room for the finish. Otherwise just leave enough room for the pickup to freely move in the cavity. You don't want too much of a gap.
