Question Why not use shielded wire?

Sign in to disble this ad
Wouldn't it be more effective to use shielded wire throughout the signal path of a bass instead of (or in addition to) shielding the cavities?

sure, you could use it on longer runs (like Vol to output jack, or from a p/u to the blend pot) to elimintate even more EMI

all the best,

i like passive el. part while being afraid of hum, so i've just put thicker shielded cables along with a copper foil shielding in my jazz im making. maybe just for a good feeling..

When you shield the cavities, you are also shielding exposed solder connections that wouldn't be covered any other way.

It would shield the wires but not the pickup. If it is a humbucker shielded wire is the practice as the pickup cancels noise, however if it is single coil then you have a huge antenna with the pup coil.

IME shielded cable for long runs in the cavity plus a shielded cavity is the best way to go.
