Hello all. I've got some cocobolo that I'd like to use for a nut and floating bridge. Is this wood dense enough for this purpose?
Thanks!

Cocobolo has a specific gravity of .91 - .96 cocobolo is slightly denser than hard maple

You are quite correct though, Hard Maple is much higher on the Janka than Cocobolo. |

Janka Hardness is based on 100mm square penetration of a pressurized ball.
Density is mass, hardness is the ability to repel penetration, to put it simply.
See the Mohs or Rockwell scales and compare to Janka, and you will gain a greater understanding. |

Also, get over to Woodworkers source on 40th st and University(if I remember correctly) in Tempe, great place to learn a lot about exotics, those guys there are great.

I was refering to density, thats why i said it is more dense then maple.
as someone else said
Hard maple has a specific gravity of .56 -.63
Cocobolo has a specific gravity of .91 - .96 cocobolo is slightly denser than hard maple
maybe You should be more sure before you say something like that? : )
