wooden pickup covers Q`s

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to make a wooden pickup.I was going to make a pattern to put P-bass pickups in and cover it with a thin piece of matching wood.It will have a false bottom so I could switch from 60s p to nordstrand, to bartolinis or emgs.My Question is will the pickup still work even under an extra layer of wood? Does that make any sense.

Wood will not influence the magnetic field and the pickup's ability to detect changes in it. Distance will though. So if you have the top thick then the pickups will be further away from the strings.
