Affordable mics

Who knows of a great portable recorder that is affordable, i.e. not over $400? I would mainly be using it to hear myself play, thanks for your input.

Zoom H2 is amazing. I record every one of my gigs & every band rehearsal with it. I also do field recordings of other bands' shows for hire, using an Audio-Technica Pro24 stereo mic ($75, battery-powered/no preamp required) on a 9-foot mic stand at the back of the room, going straight into the H2.

H4 is unnecessary unless you plan to hook up external mics which require a preamp, and if you're going to go to that trouble, you might as well use a better preamp than the one built into the H4, anyway.

I'll post some sound samples later if I remember, haha, or PM me.

Dude, it can record at 96 kHz/24-bit! (and also 16-bit, and also 44.1 kHz/24-bit and 16-bit, and also MP3 VBR, 320, 256, 224, 192, 160, and 128 kbps).
