In my country, auditioners are supposed to wear tails but I get funny looks when I take auditions in the US. I've seen a lot of casual dress so I'm very confused. I'm trying to decide which is acceptable, my tails or my favorite denim shorts and tank top?

Seriously, in the US, formal is not necessary, but if you ever get out from behind the screen you should present yourself neatly and professionally. Chances are you are going to be hanging around for hours so you'll want to be comfortable too.

It may not be typical, but the material has less resistance under my right armpit, providing for a much freer bow arm. I think that the audition is all about how you sound, not the way you present yourself. Just walk in with a cigar sticking out of your mouth, wearing nothing but a speedo; if you have a huge sound, warm tone, impeccable rhythm, and a clean articulation, you should get the gig.
