In Seattle, I've played with community orchestras like the Seattle Phil, the (underrated) Puget Sound Symphony Orchestra, and the Philharmonia Northwest.
I'd love to find a good community orchestra to join when I arrive, but the Google hasn't turned up anything that looks promising.
I consider myself a talented amateur. I've been playing since I was in middle school, took lessons through college and was even a music major for my first year in school. I still take lessons occasionally.
Does anyone know of some good orchestras that I could consider auditioning for?
Thanks!

You could also look into playing with orchestras in places like New Bedford and Brockton, which are both about an hour outside the city. These are freelance gigs, but if you get to know the personnel managers, it's not too difficult to get in. |

It is conducted by Max Hobart who is the former principle of the BSO. I would consider this an excellent community orchestra. I'm pretty sure they do their concerts at Jordan Hall which is at NEC. It's been a long time since I was involved, so, some things may be different now. |

Waltham Philharmonic makes you pay to play, and the Dorchester Symphony pays $35 a service. Good luck, and play for everyone you meet, there'll be plenty of work soon enough |

With so many colleges, I'm afraid that I'll get lost amongst the hotshot students.
It's probably going to be tricky because I won't even be arriving out there till November or December. I'm hoping to get into a master's program at a small school out there (rather than finding a job right away), but there's no indication that they have their own orchestra. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
