Easy Audition Pieces

I was just recently accepted into Huntington University, but I still have to audition for the music department. The only problem is that it has to be a "classical" piece and on a double bass, not the bass guitar (my main instrument for the last seven years). I'm not one afraid of auditions or a terrible player, but my school started offering string bass only 4 months ago (new funds=new instruments) and they currently have no one to qualified to teach the instrument (or any string instrument), so I have had to learn on my own. I have more of a fluency with jazz so pizzicato is my strongpoint, but I'm adecuate with arco.

I need a few suggestions for two fairly easy pieces to use in the audition. A friend of mine suggested "Air on the G String" transcribed from cello to bass. The only criteria are 2 contrasting pieces from different eras and one must have a piano accompaniment.

The elephant. :-D once you get all the details and notes learned, the trick is to play it with personality. It is the only piece of music that is typical/normal for the audience to laugh at at the end.

I'll admit, it is fun to play.

I agree! It may be silly, but hey, the bass is a silly instrument and we are all kind of silly for choosing it. :-P (my personal philosophy)

But I would also ask someone with more experience to help choose rep.
