Overseas

Haven't seen too much on here about the orchestral scene overseas....i.e. Europe, South America, Asia...Anyone have any insights. How does the American school of playing go over over there?

EDIT: It seems I interpreted this as if you're looking for education, but I might be mistaken?

What is the "american school" of playing?

Is there anywhere particular in Europe you had in mind? There are dozens of Royal Musical colleges, Conservatories/Konservatorium, music academies, Musikhochschules and the likes. Are you looking for a Bachelor's degree? (I believe that's called undergrad in the US?), or Masters, or exchange programme?

A quick google search: Study Music in Europe

Hope it helps! If you come over here, don't be confused about roundabouts, try out all the different kinds of beer and look at all the really old stuff.

What do you want to know, exactly?

If you are looking for work, forget about most of Europe, unless you have European Union citizenship. There are, however, still some opportunities, usually in Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Norway. Australia is pretty much closed up.

Asia (China/Singapore/Hong Kong/Malaysia/Korea/Japan) is usually the best place nowadays to find work in places that are actively looking to hire foreigners. Also, check out orchestras in South America even though it is not "overseas." There is something comforting for an American bassist when you know you can just drive you and your bass back home. (Of course you have to drive through drug cartel territory, hence, you might fly anyway, making it feel like an overseas gig).
The Chinese and South American orchestras will advertise in the International Musician.
