Study with Joel Quarrington and Matthew McDonald at Orford this summer

The Orford Arts Centre presents a master class program for two weeks with Joel Quarrington (London Symphony, National Arts Centre Orchestra) and one week with Matthew McDonald (Berlin Philharmonic) this summer. Joel will be teaching from June 30-July 13th and Matthew July 14th-20th. The deadline to apply for scholarship is February the 15th but you can still apply to the program up till April 5th. The program includes daily technique classes (I hope your fingers are ready to burn!), lessons, bass ensembles, and music appreciation classes. You can learn more here http://academie2013.arts-orford.org/...-bass/?lang=en

If you are worried about 4ths vs. 5ths DON’T BE! All of the teaching lends itself well to both tunings. I bet there will be more 4ths players than 5ths so don’t worry. One of the best examples I have seen for the double bass as a solo instrument was Joel demonstrating Gliere and Bottesini on a 4ths tuned bass in a master class.

In a typical day in previous years entails breakfast, morning technique, then look at a few excerpts, lunch, lessons/practice/master class, dinner, ensembles, music appreciation, bar/practice.

If you have any questions about my experience I am happy to answer them!

I applied here last year and got in, but didn't go (Interlochen). Again this'll be a back up for me if I don't make NYO or Domaine, but I wouldn't mind one bit. Here's to hoping!
