Oh. I thought you meant aspen was out completely... Like for everyone. Sorry. I'm stupid.

Ps. Go to Brevard. Fresh air, beautiful campus, and great music!

Can you tell me more about Brevard? How are the bass teachers? Are there small ensemble opportunities for bassists? My son was accepted there, and is waiting to hear from Sewanee and the Credo Bass Intensive (Oberlin Conservatory). We're rather new to the world of music festivals.

Brevard is great! Last year there were about 8 basses in the high school division, but There isnt really any small ensemble opportunities unless you form a group yourself. You have a lot more freedom at Brevard when it comes to your schedule, and you have more time to practice vs. a festival like sewanee. The teachers at Brevard are Kevin casseday and Craig brown. I really got a lot out of them because they sort of have the "good cop, bad cop" thing going for them. you can also get a lot out of the college students. There are always bassists hanging out in the hallway of the practice center waiting for a practice room and they're always ready to take questions.

I've never been to sewanee, but I know the bass teacher there very well. He is by far the sweetest, most upbeat person I've ever met. I feel like he'd do a better job with the younger bass players then Brevard would.

Thanks, AClark!

Ds's teacher favors Brevard with it's great reputation (and having studied there himself) but it seems that Sewanee offers additional classes in composition and conducting, which ds is also interested in studying. We've seen snippets of information on additional classes at Brevard but haven't been able to find anything definitive.

They have theory and music history, but that's about it. But don't get me wrong, Brevard has a phenomenal program. They definitely have a much stronger high school orchestra.

It's a good thing I got accepted into NYOC, because I got waitlisted at Orford and haven't heard from Domaine, while others have so I'm assuming I didn't make it!

Domaine Forget is also out- that's where I'm going this summer.

I was also accepted at Brevard, EMF, rejected at MAW, and waiting to hear from Sewanee.

Has anyone attended idyllwild recently? I feel the opportunity to work with Larry Livingston speaks for itself, but I haven't heard much about the program.

I got into Orford. Hopefully I can scratch up the cash (i was hoping to get a scholarship, but seeing as someone on here got waitlisted it must be a pretty full program this year).

Waitlisted at Domaine, Orford masterclass and orchestra, and NYOC. Waiting on PRISMA.

If you don't mind my asking, when did you submit your application to Sewanee? We submitted in early Feb. and still haven't heard a peep from them - I guess I expected some kind of response a little sooner.
