What are this guy's chances?

Hey y'all! It's my first post here, and I've been a lurker for a while. I'm a Canadian double bass player, and I am applying for the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. Just thinking of collecting up comments from you guys! What do you think?

I'd say as good as anyone. There's a lot of people auditioning this year. Most people from NYO last year are reapplying... there's at least 6 others from McGill applying who weren't in it last year...

Good luck- and please let us know how you do!

Very good. I see no reason why they wouldn't want to take you on as a bassist. I'm especially envious of your ability to play the Mahler excerpt. Could never make sense of it.

The concerto was very good as well.

If memory serves me right, it's the Koussevitsky Concerto

Bach Suite for Flute and Orchestra No. 2
Mozart Symphony No. 39
Beethoven Symphony No. 7
Wagner's Flying Dutchman Overture
A Flat Major/F Harmonic minor scales and arpeggios, three octaves
Mahler Symphony No. 9

Best of luck with your audition and hope you get in.

Who knows, I may be joining you in a few years time.

Mr. Joyce, sorry to have to tell you this... NYO is at WLU in Kitchener this year, as far as I can tell due to renovations at Western.
