25 year membership?

I just noticed that TB is offering 25 year supporting memberships...
Seems a bit excessive to me, would you guys agree?

I think it would be a lot better if TB offered say a 5 year membership at a discount.

Why? This board has been in existence 10 years at this point and seems to be going pretty strong, it existed in a variety of forms at least 3 or 4 years prior to that.

If ya dig it, why not invest in its future?

The problem with the 5 or 25 year investment is that the money comes in a lump and then in year three when the server breaks down you go back to the heavy contributors and ask to "please help".

Why not ask more knuckle heads to pay up some dues and become a paying member. I was on the board one day and realized its world wide appeal and value.

Seems to me the powers that be of TB (Namely Paul) would want montly installments when it comes to supporting members. And for some of us that'd be easier to swing than lump payments. I dunno.

Personally, I don't want to worry about renewing my membership all the time. I want to pay once and not worry about it again for a long time.

It'd be no different than some other "bills" a $5 monthly deduction (for example). I'd rather see it this way, for those with less disposable income, such as myself. It actually seems more feasable with an operation like a website with monthly expenses.

Lump payments result in a venture being "white hot" temporarily and tapering off to your steady "heavy" contributors anyway.

I'd propose a "contractural" type agreement where an end user such as myself can be a "Supporting Member" for X amount per month/quarter, but if said end user misses paying the monthly/quarterly installment they not only lose access to the "Supporting" portion of the site but they'd lose access to the whole site for a predetermined length of time as a penalty for "breaking" the agreement.

Just a thought.

God Bless, Ray

I think maybe you should have a 25 year deal where if you pay up front you can say whatever you like to whoever in whatever manner - be as insulting as you want!!

That would rake in the money!!

But might make the forums less popular overall..when the newbies get insulted by the Mega Bucks members!!

Then where's your sawbuck?

I would buy a 5 year membership. No problem.

You can think something is a good idea that will sell - without buying yourself!

I see no point in cameras in phones - but It'd be silly to say that they weren't selling!

Isn't that what Jim Jones said to his followers about the Kool Aid?

I know this wasn't intended for me but I'll respond as to why I'm not Supporting yet. I'm disabled, and disposable income is extremely hard to come by for me at this time.

This is the reason I propose a monthly/quarterly type plan. Those of you who can spare the $, more power to you. However given other payment avenues to become Supporting, I'd personally stand a better chance.

God Bless, Ray
