Some of these google generated ads are like visual polution. This Noise Bot ad seems very irrelevent to our group and it is showing up on almost every page. Is there anything that TalkBass can do to influence the content of what shows up in the forum's ad spaces?

Yes, Talkbass can influence the advertisement content and have advertisements pulled.

Perhaps Paul would consider allowing TBers to pay a higher membership fee in exchange for the ability to block annoying ads; what would you be willing to pay to have an ad-free computer screen?

Type in death or memorial (or other types of words) into a random thread and see what happens.

But the N0iseb0t a8d8s are like the plague, nothing helps.

There are easy means of avoiding this necessary evil. Use a Firefox browser and a certain extension. I have been doing so for years and wasn't even aware there were ads on TB.

Limiting TalkBass to only bass guitar ads would be a huge shot in the foot - our demographic (99% malke, 18-24) is sought after by many types of businesses - if the ad is offensive we can axe it - but in this case these guys bought a whole lot of ad space here (half our Google income currently), and I personally don't find them offensive...? Supporting memberships only cover 40% of our budget (which is actually HUGE, very few communities have such a generous user base!) - 60% is from banner ads and forum sponsorships.

I only meant to answer the question. I have no issue with the advertisements.

Noise bot ads are pretty annoying, but now TB dosen't load as fast. I get the ad immediately then TB content comes through delayed. It seems like it started w/the noise bot ads but I could be wrong.

Funnily enough I have never seen a "Noise Bot" ad and have no idea what they are or what the product is...

Maybe it knows I don't fit the demographic!!??

as far as the sponsor in question... My wife has a couple shirts from them. I've no issue with them advertising here.

(I love the shirt with the Orange saying 'Mom' to the glass of orange juice.)

My guess would be wrong location. They sell shirts with jokes or funny sayings printed on them.

Back on topic, I don't think they're offensive, but the same thing over and over on 40 pages is tiresome. A little more variety would be nice.

+1 to the firefox suggestion. I have it and it mostly works. If I spent some time I could prolly get all the ads to dissapear. Thats just on my laptop tho. Currently using the parents desktop and they dont have firefox and im too lazy to install it.

My 2 cents: Ads are a fact of the internets now. Deal and move on

I think it started more than 6 months ago. I noticed TB loading slower. Maybe Paul switched from an in-house ad server to using Google's Ad server at that time.

I also noticed that when you click on the Noise Bot ad, it takes you away from the TB site instead of opening a new page. They do have a cool shirt that states, "I love cats, I just can't eat a whole one".
